With the convenience of being centrally situated in the heart of the core conservation area, The Stanford Hotel is within walking distance of restaurants, coffee shops, the river, wandelpad, village shops, boat trips and historical attractions.
The Stanford Hotel turned 100 years in 2020, which was sadly not celebrated due to lockdown. However, a century of cherished memories is kept safely within her stout old walls, adding so much authentic charm and ambiance to the beautifully restored 1920 building.
The Stanford Hotel offers both hotel rooms and self catering cottages
Unlike most other accommodation in the village, we do not have a minimum stay requirement, so if you’d like to overnight in Stanford for one night only, we’re the best fit.
The two cottages on the Stanford Hotel premises are convenient for longer stays, and one of them is even pet friendly. A third cottage, Issey118 Heritage Cottage, is located next door to the hotel and is perfect for a getaway for up to four guests.
So whatever your needs, if you’re looking for some old world charm and a sample of village life, look no further than The Stanford Hotel.
Beautifully maintained historic building, gardens and interior. Clearly a well loved building and owner who cares for its history and preservation. Friendly and helpful staff and owner who are always there for a smile and a chat. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful few days stay in Bambi Cottage at The Stanford Hotel. The bed was super comfortable and the linen was gorgeous which made for an excellent night’s sleep! Meticulously clean, very comfortable and well equipped.

We spent two night in the double bedroom suite at this Hotel in the quaint and peaceful village of Stanford … The Hotel is spotlessly clean and well-maintained and the staff helpful and attentive yet unobtrusive.

Stanford is a delightful historic village found in the Cape Overberg, a mere 90 minutes from Cape Town, making it is a perfect weekend destination for locals or an ideal country getaway for tourists looking for a slice of rural South African village life.
Stanford village has at its heart a village green that functions on the last Friday of the month as the backdrop for the local sunset market. Every Week the Saturday morning market (farmers market) operates from the Stanford Hotel’s Stoep along with their Petite Wine Shop, specialising in Bruce Jack and Villiera Wines. Much of the village is given over to high quality food production, in the form of stoep markets and great restaurants (LaTrattoria, Madre’s, Searles Garagiste, Stanford Kitchen, Oumeul Farm Stall, Zesty Lemon, Stanford Hills Tasting Room).
The Klein River is one of Stanford’s main attractions along with its extensive birdlife. There are several wine farms in the area, a micro brewery, The Kleinriver Cheese farm with its international award winning gruyere cheese, and several award winning bistros and restaurants.
